This "Macro-Organism" called Earth

Technically the earth is not an organism or at least many scientists have said that there's not enough evidence to prove that claim. But I'm optimistic and maybe one day we will better understand this planet of ours. But anyway... let's get back to the post.

Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution this world has changed drastically. In other words this event sort of made the world as we see it today. In many ways it became second nature for the later generations to "follow the band wagon of manufacturing" and depleting the Earth of its micro-ecosystems. Companies destroying rain forests and polluting the ocean with oil. But of course this is not an eco-blog so I won't get into much details about that. Nevertheless this phenomenon allowed industrialized countries to integrate with other humans who were less known. These countries were able to travel to smaller islands or other countries more efficiently. Then centuries later the technology advance and now information about those other people are now available through books, television and even online. Look at this picture of the World Map below.

Aside from the pretty colors and black lines that's invisible in reality, what are your thoughts? Do you picture yourself living in another country? Have you ever been to another country like me? What if you were born on the other side of the planet? It's interesting to hear what Americans/Brits think of other races/cultures. Some say they see a bunch of nations that's different from them while others say everyone is the same because we're all human beings. Of course these opinions applies to the people of many other countries as well. Obviously we are the same in terms of collectiveness and as a species. But each plot of land that consist of a certain type of people may or may not differentiate from another. A good example would be to compare and contrast between Americans & Brits. Both nation's main language is English but the accents of each are very different. Also the spelling of many words changes from one to the other. It's almost the same when comparing Spanish the language from Spain to every other latino nations. So with that being said... let's look at the world more closely. Below is a list of all countries in alphabetical order with their placement on earth and the number of inhabitants who lived or claimed residency for the year 2010.

But according to the Oxford English Dictionary the term "Country" is defined as the following: A nation with its own government, occupying a particular territory. It seems that the United States Census Bureau only recognizes 196 countries as being independent nations. In actuality there are far more countries out there but they do not exist in political terms. Technically a country is an area or land that has a group of people united by common descent, history, culture and/or language who govern themselves. So this list will be based on that theory. The (*) symbol will clarify certain things about country status.
